Will I Be Able to Take the Classic Machu Picchu Photo with This Tour?

Yes. This tour includes access to either Circuit 2A Classic Route or Circuit 2B Lower Terrace Route, which both include access to the world-famous panoramic viewpoint where travelers take the classic postcard photo of Machu Picchu.

Classic Machu Picchu panoramic photo from Circuit 2 Lower Terrace

This panoramic viewpoint is located within Circuit 2 Lower Terrace, one of the most complete and scenic circuits inside Machu Picchu.

Both photos shown above were taken from the same panoramic sector included with this tour.

Are Circuit 2 Tickets Guaranteed Even if the Government Website Shows Sold Out?

Yes. You are guaranteed entrance tickets for Circuit 2, widely considered the best circuit in Machu Picchu because it includes the classic panoramic viewpoints and the most complete walking route through the citadel.

What is not guaranteed is the exact entry time printed on your entrance ticket. The assigned time depends entirely on official availability at the moment your registration number is called.

As long as you follow our staff instructions carefully, you should have no problems obtaining Circuit 2 tickets through the official last-minute process.

Every day, the Ministry of Culture releases a limited number of last-minute tickets in Aguas Calientes. However, during Peruvian holidays, long weekends, school vacations, or exceptionally high-demand periods, there is a small possibility that the maximum visitor capacity for that day may already be reached before your registration number is called.

In this situation, you will normally have two options:

  • Option 1: Keep the tour as a 2-day experience by choosing a different available circuit that still allows access to panoramic viewpoints and classic Machu Picchu photos.
  • Option 2: Stay an additional night in Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) and receive your Circuit 2 entrance tickets for the following day.

In extremely rare situations during unusually high demand, it is even possible that the visit may need to move to a 4th day. While this is uncommon, we believe it is important to be transparent so travelers can plan with flexibility.

If we detect unusually high demand before your arrival, we will normally warn you in advance so you can prepare accordingly. However, sudden surges of local travelers sometimes occur unexpectedly and cannot always be predicted.

Historically, the busiest periods include:

  • Holy Week (Semana Santa)
  • Peru Independence Week around July 28
  • Mid-term school breaks in August and October
  • Mid-December graduation travel season
  • Long weekends and national holidays in Peru

If an additional day becomes necessary, we will do everything possible to help modify your train tickets, bus tickets, guide schedule, and transportation arrangements accordingly. Additional hotel nights in Aguas Calientes remain the responsibility of the traveler.

Can I Change My Return Train if I Receive an Early Entry Time?

Yes. We have a special arrangement with the train company that usually allows us to modify your return train departure if you receive an earlier Machu Picchu entrance time and wish to return to Cusco sooner.

The train company normally charges a modification fee, which is typically around 15 USD per person. However, the final cost may be higher depending on train availability, train category upgrades, departure time requested, and seasonal demand.

Our staff will assist you with the train modification process whenever possible.

Please note that if your return train is changed to an earlier departure, the included hotel transfer service in Cusco may no longer be available depending on your new arrival time. In that case, travelers may need to arrange their own taxi back to their hotel.

Can I Add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to My Tour?

Usually yes. Travelers may request to add either a Huayna Picchu Mountain ticket or a Machu Picchu Mountain ticket, depending on official availability at the time of registration.

Please note that adding one of these mountain hikes requires an additional night in Aguas Calientes, since the mountain visit is normally scheduled separately from your Circuit 2 entrance ticket.

The additional cost to add a mountain ticket is:

  • 78 USD per person for the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain entrance ticket.
  • 35 USD per person for the additional bus tickets to and from the Machu Picchu entrance.

Hotel accommodations for the additional night are not included and remain the responsibility of the traveler.

Availability varies depending on daily demand, and on exceptionally busy dates the Ministry of Culture may limit visitors to only one entrance ticket per person.

If you are interested in adding this experience, simply let us know before your tour begins and we will gladly add this option to your reservation whenever availability allows.

Why Are Last-Minute Machu Picchu Tickets Sold as a Complete Package?

The last-minute Machu Picchu tickets are not sold as entrance tickets alone. Instead, they are offered as a complete tourism service package designed to support both travelers and the local economy of Aguas Calientes.

This package includes:

  • Passport registration assistance
  • Guidance during the ticket pickup process
  • Machu Picchu entrance ticket (Circuit 2)
  • Bus transportation to the Machu Picchu entrance
  • 2.5-hour private guided tour
  • Bus transportation back to Aguas Calientes

This policy exists because historically, most online ticket revenue went directly to Lima, while very little economic benefit remained in Aguas Calientes, the town that serves as the gateway to Machu Picchu.

In response, local residents organized protests requesting that tourism revenue better support the local community. As part of the solution, the government authorized a limited number of daily in-person tickets in Aguas Calientes so that visitors would contribute directly to the local economy through:

  • Hiring licensed local tour guides
  • Using local transportation services
  • Staying in local hotels
  • Supporting local restaurants and businesses

By booking this tour, you are not only securing a last-minute opportunity to visit Machu Picchu — you are also directly supporting the local community that helps make these experiences possible.

You may cancel this tour with a penalty of 120 USD per person if you cancel with a 72-hour advanced notice. This is because the bus tickets are not refundable and the train company only allows cancellations by paying a penalty

If you cancel with less than 72 hours advanced notice, no refund of any kind can be made regardless of the reason of your cancellation. Sorry, but we are firm on this as the train, bus tickets (4 of them required) are not refundable. In addition, the work to secure a private guide, the bus tickets, the train tickets, the taxi, and the bus to the entrance, the taxes and the accouting costs do not give us any room to give you any refund if you tell us last minute.

You may change the tour date only, if you give us a 72 hour notice. And you must pay a 30USD penalty per person to change your tour reservation to a new date.

In extremely high demand dates, usually during Peruvian holidays like Peru's Independence day around July 28 or when Peruvian high school students go to Machu Picchu as part of their graduation during the months of September and October , there is a 1% chance you may have to stay one more night in Aguas Calientes without advanced notice. There are only 500 circuit 2 tickets available daily, and In situations when there are more tourists than tickets available, you will have the choice to either take a Circuit 1 Machu Picchu Mountain ticket or Circuit 3 Royalty ticket or Circuit 3 Huayna Picchu ticket to keep the tour to 2-days, or you will have to stay one additional night in Machu Picchu village to get your circuit 2 entrance ticket. In such situations, you are still responsible to pay for your additional hotel costs in Machu Picchu village. Since we do this every day, we usually warn you ahead of time if this may be a possibility, but the first occurrence takes us all by surprise and it may be the case that it happens with you. Please be understanding.
